The K9 Officer supports the patrol and investigative functions of the agency and enhances officer and citizen safety. Because of their superior senses of smell and hearing, and physical capabilities, the trained law enforcement canine is a valuable supplement to police manpower. K9 Ringo (retired 2018) was a male sable German shepherd who was born in the Czech Republic. He was certified in patrol, tracking, and narcotics detection. With his human partner, OFFICER BILL WATT, Ringo added an exciting new dimension to law enforcement in East Hempfield Township. In May 2018, K9 TUNDRA was purchased and began training. He will begin patrol duites in the summer of 2018. While assigned to a specific platoon, the team is also called upon to assist at other times in the Township or County.
